An Orange America

Tropicana, one of PepsiCo’s billion-dollar brands, hired JESS3 through agency partner NMS to create a meaningful application to serve and engage online communities during the week leading up to the historical 2008 election of U.S. President Barack Obama.

Positioning the familiar brand as a fun, unifying force that transcends polarizing partisanship, Tropicana’s “We’re not red. We’re not blue. We’re 100% orange” campaign was born. We knew that Tweet volume about both Obama and McCain would be high during this time and that aggregation would not be enough to document the significance of the larger trends we saw occurring. Therefore, we turned to a key design and development best practice, data visualization, to produce a dynamic data aggregator for Twitter that delivered valuable information to users while integrating the Tropicana brand with the online capabilities users want.

Personal Democracy Forum and techPresident co-founder Micah Sifry called it “the coolest data visualization I’ve seen yet coming out of the Twitterverse,” and “one of the smartest product placement moves I’ve ever seen a traditional company do online.”

JESS3 Praised for Best Startup Swag

JESS3 earns notice for being one of five of DC’s hottest startups with the “Best Startup Swag.” InTheCapital gives a shout-out to JESS3 swag calling the t-shirts, “absurdly awesome and well designed to the point where you feel guilty for accepting it for free.” Along with the swag applaud, InTheCapital states JESS3 founder and CEO, Jesse Thomas as, “easily one of the coolest people you will ever meet in D.C. Tech.” Did it stop there? Not exactly. InTheCapital writer Carl Pierre went on to state, “if I saw any JESS3 t-shirts, posters, or pins -- being sold in a store, I would not hesitate to whip out my wallet and pay actual money for it.”

JESS3 Joins the Society of Digital Agencies (SoDA)

JESS3 has joined the roster of the Society of Digital Agencies. SoDA membership is invitation-only, comprised of 60 top digital agencies and elite production companies – with offices in 24 countries. “We are thrilled to welcome JESS3 to the prestigious ranks of SoDA membership,” said Chris Buettner, Director of Operations. SoDA members in Russia, Brazil, and North America commended JESS3 in the full member vote. JESS3 Co-founder, President and Chief Operating Officer Leslie Bradshaw spoke about the honor, “To think that we are now a part of SoDA – and among agencies like Made by Many, Resn, and Phenomblue - is a dream come true.”

This episode of PBS' Off Book series talks to animators and motion graphics creators about the past and present of this magical medium. New York University Professor and filmmaker John Canemaker presents a very brief history of animation and Jesse Thomas, founder of the creative agency JESS3, talks about how motion graphics have thrived on the Internet. JESS3 Helps Google Earth Commemorate its 1 Billionth Download

Google Earth reached 1 billion downloads and asked the infographic experts at JESS3 to help commemorate the milestone. We selected the “Around the world in 60 seconds” concept to add a story-telling dimension to the infographic while highlighting the ease and speed with which users can explore some of the most fascinating parts of the globe.

TEDxYouth Comes to DC

Organized by Teens and Tech, which was founded by JESS3's own Daniel Brusilovsky, the event brought an important focus to the entrepreneurial spirit and abilities of young people. Hosted at AT&T, themes including the environment, technology and community were woven throughout.

Illustrating the new extension landscape with Washington Post

Soon after the ICANN announced the release of new internet extensions becoming available, The Washington Post tapped JESS3 to illustrate an article outlining the possibilities of corporations snatching up universal terms, like ."love" - but who would that term belong to? The Washington Post has invited readers to share their thoughts via Twitter using the #icannlove hashtag.
