How Social Media is Changing Design

JESS3 co-founders Jesse Thomas and Leslie Bradshaw joined the New York Times Social Media Editor Jennifer Preston as keynote speakers for the second annual Nonick Conference in Bilbao, Spain in May 2010.

The presentation focused on the ways that social media is changing web design, from providing building blocks in terms of content and modules, to influencing how users interact with websites and media. To give the presentation the personal, human touch that we give all of our work, we created a series of original illustrations in Adobe Illustrator before using PowerPoint as a delivery mechanism.

Ezra Klein: The Big Economic Boost of a Visit from POTUS, in One Graphic

"How much of a boost does a business get from a president’s visit? After the folks at the Washington sandwich shop Taylor Gourmet got a visit from President Obama on May 16, they decided to crunch the numbers and find out. President Obama spent exactly 15 minutes at Taylor Gourmet. That visit was enough to boost the stores’ sandwich sales by 15 percent. Orders for the Spruce Street (Obama’s hoagie of choice) jumped from 21 each day to 53 after the President’s visit. JESS3 Designs Posters for Google's New LA Office

To celebrate the opening of its new offices, Google LA approached frequent design partner JESS3 to create 13 movie-sized posters, one for each of the major engineering efforts at the LA site that would live beyond the opening event in November. The result is a group of fun illustrated infographics which tell the story of the processes behind Ad Sense, Chrome, and Google+ photo sharing and more.

JESS3 and Zoetica Media Visualize The State of Influencer Theory

To illustrate Geoff Livingston's findings about influence, the author partnered with JESS3 to visualize the State of Influencer Theory through a dynamic infographic that outlines the different phases Influencer Theory on the Social Web has taken over the last ten years, from Malcom Gladwell’s Tipping Point in 2000 to the current movement: Leaderboards.

JESS3 Designs the Change the Ratio Logo

After realizing that only 13 percent of Wikipedia contributors are women, 1×57 has decided to raise awareness about the issue and encourage more to contribute through its free workshop “Women Who Wiki.” The event’s organizers tapped JESS3 for logo and barnstar design explorations to go along with its “Change the Ratio” campaign.

Samsung #1 Buzzed About Non-Media Brand at SXSW

We are ecstatic to see our client, Samsung, named as one of the most talked about brands during the South by Southwest Interactive conference this year alongside Twitter, YouTube, foursquare and Chevrolet. During the five-day conference over half a million SXSW mentions were generated. Top mentions were displayed by the Samsung smartwall, an interactive installation designed by JESS3.
