Creative Corporate Christmas Presents
Why do so many companies treat potential users so much better than existing users?we shouldnt forget about the people that made our year so memorable...
It doesn't have to be expensive (it is a business after all), just imaginative... Something that screams your company's culture and provides a reason to pause. And if you feel like testing out present ideas, send em on through to me for 'review' :)
This year at Ogilvy we were given a nice blanket that happened to be the nice dark ogilvy red. A nice useable valuable gift.. (Grade: b minus).. not too original.. but useable enough to make up for it. and the logo embrodery was nicely done.
Personally, I think a bottle of champagne is the perfect xmas gift. the timing is perfect.. you give it on the 25th (or before) and they have it on hand for new years.. its reasonabley priced.. and versatile.. some bottles cost more than the other.. you can buy in bulk for a discount.. to kick it up a notch you can put it in a gift bag.. or wrap it in tissue paper.. etc

Commentary on existing customers v. new ones....Verizon (cell phones) were offering a special price for a blackberry that I saw on their website. Since I was an existing customer, I called them wanting to trade out my phone for the one they had on "special". They told me that I was not eligible becuase I was an existing customer....huh? The special was only for new customers....huh? They wanted to charge me $100 more...huh?
Only after freaking out on the very simple sales person for 15 minutes, did she pass me to a manager where instructed him on how competitive the cell phone market is and how stupid it is to piss off existing customers in an effort to attract new ones. When will these huge companies learn (especially those that are commodity-based) that it is more difficult to get new customers than it is to retain old ones.
By the way...I got the phone at the special price. Boo-ya!
