Fatal Accident Closes George Washington Parkway

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- A fatal accident has forced U.S. Park Police officers to close the George Washington Memorial Parkway.

Just after 2 a.m. this morning, officers were notified of an overturned car just south of Hunting Creek in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County, Va.

Both the north and southbound lanes were closed, but they have since reopened.

Police said the operator and sole occupant had to be extricated from the vehicle.
