about Las Vegas (MAGIC Fashion shows) - August 2008

James Callahan our Art Director at JESS3 came with me to the MAGIC fashions shows (and Pool and Project). We stayed at the Hard Rock and Caesars Palace. Great thai food in vegas at Lotus of siam. Make sure you check out the gun store and shoot some machine guns!

in the casinos ATM machines, they only give out $100 bills, and a minimum of $200, and they give you an offer to do that without a pin? pretty reckless!

all in all the trip was great. I learned alot and had a very special time.

about Facebook for Iphone v2

News Feed

In version 1.1, the News Feed contained only status updates and mobile photo uploads. In version 2.0 you will have the exact same News Feed experience as on the Facebook website. You will be able to see your friends' Posted Items, new interests and relationships, photos, and all other stories that pass through News Feed. You'll be able to comment on every story, and filter the feed by certain categories, applications, and friend lists, just like on the new Facebook.

Notifications

You'll be able to see all of your Notifications on the Home tab, and new Notifications will arrive in real-time while the app is running. We're preparing for the release of Apple's new push service, which will allow us to deliver Notifications to your iPhone even when you're not running Facebook for iPhone. I expect that to be one of the features in the next version after 2.0.

Profile Redesign

Profiles now have a tabbed design, like the new Facebook website, and a combined Wall and Mini-Feed.

Search for and Approve New Friends

This has been a popular request. You will now be able to search for people beyond your own Friends, request their friendship, and approve your own friend requests.

Inbox

In version 1.1, you can only see the first 30 messages in your Inbox. In version 2.0, you will be able to see older messages, all the way back to the beginning. You'll also be able to search your Inbox and see your Sent folder.

about C'était un rendez-vous

A short film from 1976 where a camera is mounted on the front of a Ferrari driving at up to 140mph through Paris. The film was made by Claude Lelouch, who was arrested when he showed the film to the public.

according to wikipedia
Recent claims made by the director himself, however, suggest he drove his own Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 in the film and dubbed the sound effects of a Ferrari 275GTB.

about Braid game that will change how games are made

the story plays off of the game play in a really unique way.

it looks like super mario from a distance, but dont let that fool you. it has some inspiration from the matrix bullet time as well. its almost psychedelic..

a great essay about the game here and here

"This is a tough one for me, Iroquois. Before I played it, Braid looked like a game targeted directly at me and my tastes: thematically ambitious, artistically rich; an homage to genre-defining games I love. As I've written here previously, I want to play games that explore emotions rarely found in video games, like sadness and longing. I'm eager for games that don't fear ambiguity; games that offer open space for interpretation and rumination.

Braid is all these things. So why don't I like it very much?

I admire the game Braid wants to be, but I see a fundamental disconnect between the game's narrative ambitions and the mechanisms Braid relies on to deliver them. Essentially, it's a platformer/puzzle game with story elements interspersed throughout, separating each of the worlds. In this way, it's a fairly conventional structure, with what appears to be a purposefully thin story attached."

about app in a day - progress report 2

so we've changed the idea a bit, we lost the quiz for this version.

we are focusing on the comparison angle.

friend compare

name ideas, mark had some great advice, "The only problem being, as with most of these "buzzword" names, that in general if users are searching by application name the name doesn't actually describe what the application does [unless they're native to the language"

1.FriendCompare
2.BuddyCompare
2.PalStat

If going for the similarity angle: (from mark hawker)

comparix
frollate (Friend Collate)
fratch (Friend Match)
friendpatability [Bit long ;)]
frequality (Friend Equality)
comigo (Compare Amigo)
friendalike

I am pretty sold on using the meat cleaver as the app icon, it represents cutting up data.

about app in a day - progress report 1

zvi and I are off to a good start with the conceptualizing of the user experience for our app in a day project, and eric is helping with branding, naming and logos, greg threw out some good ones too, Jay Meattle is serving as our adviser and has kept us on track.

-

kicking around ideas, refining thoughts.

the idea is....

friend statistics, a full featured data visualization centric statistics app. with a really nice quiz feature. the quiz questions will be based on your friend consensus data. example "what is the most active wall poster in your network?" which we would then show 5 headshots, and perhaps the text of each's most recent wall post.

we still dont have a name or a branding style, but we do have the high level concept pretty much nailed.

name ideas, we can't have "face" or "book" in the name

update

friend compare is looking to be quite interesting, the ability to compare up to 2 other friends with your info and highlight similarities and differences. this would then publish a new feed item that says "jesse just compared himself to zvi band, and leslie bradshaw" which would link to the comparison page. it will show a google map image of the approx location, and even tell you the distance between you and your friend/s

"People of Berlin - and people of the world - the scale of our challenge is great. The road ahead will be long. But I come before you to say that we are heirs to a struggle for freedom. We are a people of improbable hope. With an eye toward the future, with resolve in our hearts, let us remember this history, and answer our destiny, and remake the world once again."
