I am working with FaceBook to help organize a Developer Garage in DC on October 10.UPDATE:Garages are just like they sound – a place for you to explore, get gritty, tinker, experiment, and test out your ideas for Facebook Platform. Being in the Garage is all about participating, getting your hands dirty, and exploring fresh ideas and solutions.
Most Garages will offer you the opportunity to give a 5-10 minute brief presentation or case study on your App – you can show and tell, get feedback, highlight any novel techniques you’re using, or hunt for partners. So far popular topics include: optimizing product design, best practices for viral growth, tricks for testing your app, metrics for success, ninja code tricks…the usual. Pretty much anything goes.
In general, Garages will welcome ad hoc presentations, brainstorming sessions with other developers, and social interaction time. Some Garages will also offer some Q&A time with Facebook Platform Engineers, either via video conference or in person. Most will also provide food, power, and wireless connectivity. Check your area’s Facebook Developer Garage for specific details about what to bring or what to expect.

To represent this rich family of products, Adobe is introducing the Photoshop visual logo. This logo will soon appear in all Photoshop-related marketing, so keep an eye out for it. The Photoshop logo on a product, service, or technology, represents the rich legacy, technical quality, and attention to detail that has made Photoshop the gold standard in digital imaging.

You can view a quicktime version in one part here
The founder hopes that in 8apps, he can provide a suite of 8 applications that provide both an indispensable function and a simple, easy-to-grasp user experience.
However, hes not interested in competing with existing services. "I don’t want to make an online MS Office, an alternative to Google Calendar or 37Signals copycat. I want to fill the holes in the productivity / project timeline that these services do not. A suite of small, focused applications that you can use in tandem with these already-established “major players” to give your productivity and personal organisation a big boost."
8apps in this private beta test stage is currently made up of 3 applications. Those are Handshake, Orchestrate and Blueprint.

Handshake is the “glue” that holds the rest of the 8apps together. Handshake is a social network where you can find and make contacts, vote on your contacts’ abilities (which creates a nice polar graph for them like on my profile page), send mails and give appraisals. Any contact that you add in Handshake then becomes available for you to use in the other apps.

Orchestrate is a multi-pane task manager and Orchestrate in 8apps is an improved version of the original Orchestrate. It’s faster to use and enables you to share your lists and colour them however you like. Your list layout - and even the layout of your shared lists - is preserved for your next visit.

One caveat! This is not IE compatible. In IE you won’t even see the option for it. Currently it is supported by Firefox, Safari and all other sensible browsers… I love that

One of the most important things you can ever do is sign up for a free linkedin account. For those of you that dont know what Linkedin.com is.. it is essentially an online resume centric social network. there are no images, and no pokes.. but there are testimonials (comments) and following in their cousin facebooks footsteps linkedin will be releasing an API in the coming months.

Apple just slapped NBC down hard. Responding to reports NBC was pulling out of the iTunes Store, Apple announced that it was prematurely canceling their partnership — Because NBC wanted $5 per episode of its shows!
Apple® today announced that it will not be selling NBC television shows for the upcoming television season on its online iTunes® Store (www.itunes.com). The move follows NBC’s decision to not renew its agreement with iTunes after Apple declined to pay more than double the wholesale price for each NBC TV episode, which would have resulted in the retail price to consumers increasing to $4.99 per episode from the current $1.99. ABC, CBS, FOX and The CW, along with more than 50 cable networks, are signed up to sell TV shows from their upcoming season on iTunes at $1.99 per episode.
Incredible. NBC has benefited from iTunes more than anyone else, and they’re throwing out crazy price increases. I mean, that would have made Friday Night Lights Season 1 cost $110! NBC is selling the DVD for less than $20 brand-new with more special features! If this is any indication of Hulu’s pricing scheme, it’s screwed out of the gate.
