soundball
It may look it, but Aleksei R. Stevens’ Soundball is no ordinary soccer ball. it’s embedded with a motion sensor that can detect being thrown, hit, kicked, and spun, then via Bluetooth sends the info to a computer that plays sounds and music that correspond to its movements. Stevens is a New York-based musician and teacher; the video below was shot at Sony Wonder Labs in NYC.

I came across this image that helps prove why limousines and the hills of SF don't always mix. For this and more instances of such sad occurrences, go here.

Pain game for PS3
Pain is an upcoming title for the Playstation Network in which your goal is to sling your avatar with a slingshot into an open-city environment where everything is intractable. Stuff explodes, cars drive by and run you over, flinging you ever further, and you even have the ability to grab onto objects (including people!) as you fly across the city. The goal of course is to cause as much pain as possible.
Thankfully the game is cartoony and exaggerated, and about as far from being realistic as you can get without being too fantastical.
A new video interview with the African American director Travis Williams reveals more details about the online play and even how you can record your favorite crashes and pause the action, view it from any angle, rewind, etc.

It will be hosted by Andrew Hyde from the original StartupWeekend and William Kern from AOL.

1-take trampoline video clip
an infographically inspired, 1 take, top shot videoclip with professional trampoline gymnasts simulating typical video editing effects.
as predefined conditions, a live audience witnessed the whole shoot, which could only be recorded once, so that no option existed to reshoot or edit if something went wrong.

Tickets on sale Friday, July 6 @ 10am. Ticket Limit- 2 ticket limit for this event per household, customer, credit card number and email address.
If you wanted to see the Smashing Pumpkins at the Virgin Festival but don't feel like paying $97.50 to see the band on a huge stage in the middle of a racetrack, here's some amazing news: The band is playing a surprise show at the 9:30 Club next Tuesday, July 10.
Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. through Tickets.com for 30bucks.
This is the band's sixth time playing the venue: There were two shows in fall 1993, when it was still the WUST Music Hall, two shows in January 1996 to mark the opening of the 9:30 club, and another show in the spring of 1999.

pownce
My public POWNCE account is http://pownce.com/jess3/pownce takes a few web product concepts and mashes them into one. It takes the facebook feed, and yousendits notification functionality to the next level with a dash of user experience inspiration from flickr.. its also got some inspiration from slideshare.
pownce goes a little something like this, I can upload a mp3 and share it with all or some of my network. People can comment on the file or upload a file in retort. This becomes really useful if you are in a design team and want to share stuff with ppl outside of your group.. or if you are a freelancer- you could use it to share your work with clients and colleagues.. or a student- you could use this to upload notes and research files and get feedback from your class and teacher?.. etc
Its got a really nice interface, and alot of sweet touches.. This is from kevin rose (of digg fame, and if you are a 20-something nerd like me, you might remember Kevin from techtv!!!) The founding team of the company also includes Leah Culver, Daniel Burka, and Shawn Allen.

the spaced out rose..
Pownce uses adobe AIR technology, which is the public version of what was known as Adobe APOLLO.. very sweet stuff if you havent checked out what it is.. imagine the power of software (no crashes), but with the rapid development of web design (and sexyness of ajax/flash)... the app you download is very sweet and I want to see lots more apps like this. yousendit should make one of these...and the flickr uploadr should use Adobe AIR. I have been using my pownce account to share pdfs and mp3s, and when I upload an mp3, I can play it right there on the page with one of those sexy little flash mp3 players. (like del.icio has been offering forever now)
GMail also lets you play MP3 files right inside the GMail interface without having to download the MP3 or open an external media player.
When you receive an audio file as an email attachment, click the play button and Google will play the audio file for you in a popup window. Very neat implementation (see screenshot)
Now digging into the GMail Mp3 player code, I discovered that it's actually the Google video player that's playing the audio file. Infact, you can play any MP3 files from the embedded Google Video player without even having to login to GMail. Here's the secret URL (works perfect in Firefox)
http://mail.google.com/mail/html/audio.swf?audioUrl=MP3_URL
Replace the MP3_URL with the actual location of the MP3 file on the web and play it inside Google Video. Odeo, take note. Google is entering your territory.
http://pownce.com/download/
I got an invite for pownce from my main man Peter Corbett who writes a terrific blog at http://advercation.com/. but I have a couple left if anyone wants one?
kevin is offering a paid version also.. so for 20$ a year you get no ads and larger file size.. well see how this pans out. google can you just start offering free file storage so the yousendits of the world can die, please?
