about Convict Joke

A man escapes from a prison where he's been locked up for 15 years. He breaks into a house to look for money and guns. Inside, he finds a young couple in bed. He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair.

While tying the homeowner's wife to the bed, the convict gets on top of her,
kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom.

While he's in there, the husband whispers over to his wife: "Listen,this guy is an escaped convict. Look at his clothes! He's probably spent a lot of time in jail and hasn't seen a woman in years. I saw how he kissed your neck. If he wants sex, don't resist, don't complain ... do whatever he tells you. Satisfy him no matter how much he nauseates you. This guy is obviously very dangerous. If he gets angry, he'll kill us both. Be strong, honey. I love you!"

His wife responds: "He wasn't kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear.

He told me that he's gay, thinks you're cute, and asked if we had any Vaseline. I told him it was in the bathroom. Be strong honey. I love you, too!"

Hunter S. Thompson, the hard-living writer who inserted himself into his accounts of America's underbelly and popularized a first-person form of journalism in books such as "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," has committed suicide.

Thompson was found dead Sunday in his Aspen-area home of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, sheriff's officials said. He was 67. Thompson's wife, Anita, had gone out before the shooting and was not home at the time.

Google has added the convenience of US street address and phone number lookup to the information we provide through our search box. You'll see publicly listed phone numbers and addresses at the top of results pages for searches that contain specific kinds of keywords.

To find listings for a US business, type the business name into the Google search box, along with the city and state. Or type the business name and zip code. Entering the phone number with area code will also return a complete business listing.

To find listings for a US residence, type any of the following combinations into the Google search box:

* first name (or first initial), last name, city (state is optional)
* first name (or first initial), last name, state
* first name (or first initial), last name, area code
* first name (or first initial), last name, zip code
* phone number, including area code
* last name, city, state
* last name, zip code

If your query results in business and residential listings, both categories will be listed for your convenience.

FRIDAY NIGHT

An easter egg, as it relates to software, refers to a way of displaying a list of the software developers. Most major software products include an easter egg, but viewing it almost always involves performing a series of non-intuitive steps.

"[An Easter Egg in a webpage is] a secret message or screen buried in an application. Typically, easter eggs are used to display the credits for the development team or to display a humorous message. To see an easter egg, you need to know a special procedure or sequence of keystrokes."
(definition from www.webopedia.com)

The easter egg can represent anything your fertile imagination can conceive of. Here are a few ideas.

* Amusing or provocative pictures.

* Off-the-wall philosophical comments.

* Games with certain answers uncovering a second easter egg.

* Fun musical interludes.

* Your own voice cracking jokes or imitating a celebrity.

An informational easter egg can be presented in a JavaScript alert box. Quotes, "this day in history..." info items, and jokes are all candidates for this type of easter egg.

Easter eggs are limited only by imagination and the technology available to hide and present them.

If the Bush Twins, Barb and Jenna, accessorize with iPods, as some gawkers said they had amid Daddy's inaugural celebrations, does that make the iPod more cool, or less? What about President Bush himself, who was seen iPoding late last year as he went for a bike ride? Did that spur iPod's monster holiday sales?

Silly questions, yes, but they are some of what now passes for investment analysis of Apple Computer (AAPL), maker of the iPod line of music players and the stylish Macintosh family of computers. Lately hitting a new high above 77, stock in Apple is not just high-priced -- 37 times this year's estimated profit -- but high-fashion.

An innovative photo organising service is taking the web by storm. Jim McClellan reports

It is hard to avoid the buzz online about Flickr, a photo organising/sharing service yet to celebrate its first birthday. In tones echoing the optimism of early 90s internet culture, enthusiasts say the service makes possible new kinds of conversation and community. For others, it shows how the efforts of individuals can be harnessed to help organise the internet.

Flickr's growth has matched this excitement. Though still in beta, it has 245,000 members, and is growing at 5-10% a week, according to co-founder Caterina Fake. "We have 3.5m photos online - members upload up to 60,000 new photos a day."

Digital photography is hugely popular and online storage and organisation is one solution to the image overload many snappers experience. But other sites offer similar services. So why has this Vancouver-based operation generated such excitement?

Flickr is well designed and easy to use, but its popularity is probably because it permits what Fake calls "a rich, sharing experience". The tools it gives users - in particular the ability to "tag" photos (describe their content with a key word) and then, via those tags, share images with others, have unleashed the social potential of digital photos.

Happy Birthday Flickr!!!

FlickrGraph is a great new Flickr third party app by Marumishi, aka Marcos Weskamp.

Flickr Graph is an application that visualizes the social relationships inside flickr.com. It makes use of the classic attraction-repulsion algorithm for graphs. Start exploring your contacts by entering your flickr username or the email address you used to register there.

Be sure to doubleclick through on the member's icon to see a view of their latest photographs, as well as links to the tags they use most frequently. It's a really lovely way to surf Flickr.

Q: How do you systematize innovation?

A: The system is that there is no system. That doesn’t mean we don’t have process. Apple is a very disciplined company, and we have great processes. But that’s not what it’s about. Process makes you more efficient.

But innovation comes from people meeting up in the hallways or calling each other at 10:30 at night with a new idea, or because they realized something that shoots holes in how we’ve been thinking about a problem. It’s ad hoc meetings of six people called by someone who thinks he has figured out the coolest new thing ever and who wants to know what other people think of his idea.

And it comes from saying no to 1,000 things to make sure we don’t get on the wrong track or try to do too much. We’re always thinking about new markets we could enter, but it’s only by saying no that you can concentrate on the things that are really important.

"Always say no default. Make features and ideas beg to be made, beg to be included, beg to be pursued. You’ll know when they need to be."
